Chateu Valtice

Close to the Lednice is Valtice, the town of wine and where the best wine festival in the Czech Republic is held in September each year. The centrepiece of Valtice, however, is the huge 18th century baroque Chateau, the former residence of the Liechtenstein family. Visitors can admire the spectacularly decorated interiors with stylish Baroque and Rococo furnishings, the stuccoed and painted castle chapel, the Spanish stables, the ballroom and more; or they can walk through the castle gardens and discover the sprawling remains of a former Baroque theater.

In the Chateau’s cellars, visitors can find the National Wine Salon of the Czech Republic. The Valtice Secondary Agricultural School, established in 1873, is also located in the Chateau. This is the only institution in the Czech Republic that teaches viticulture and wine making.
